Languages and Culture Department Head:

Rhonda Cizeron

Bonjour, Hola, ‘Uy’ skweyul !  My name is Rhonda Cizeron and I am the Languages and Culture Department Head at Cowichan Secondary School.  We have a vibrant languages program at CSS including Spanish, Core French, French Immersion and Hul’quminum.  Our programs provide a variety of opportunities for our students to expand their knowledge of local and global cultural traditions and language.  We offer hands on learning and trips to immerse our learners in the language and culture.  When you are part of our learning experience you may do anything from dogsledding, to clam digging, to cooking, to art and much more.  We also contribute to our larger community with many service projects in our diverse language programs. Some projects this year included a battery recycling campaign to help starving children in African countries and money raised to help earthquake victims in Mexico.

I have had the pleasure of teaching Core French and French Immersion at all levels at Cowichan Secondary School for the past 5 years.  I have been teaching…. let’s just say for a while and have enjoyed being with learners from grades 7 through 12. I grew up in a small town in the Rockies and I went to University in Victoria and in France. I lived and taught English at various International companies in France for 7 years.  My family time is important and keeps me busy but some of the other things I like to do are many sports like skiing, hiking, volleyball, mountain biking and I try to play hockey.  Anyone who knows me would say “ she loves chocolate and eighties hair bands.”  I look forward to continuing to share my passion for language and culture and spreading the message of tolerance for many years to come.
