Career Programs

PLEASE VISIT THE JOB/VOLUNTEER BOARD OUTSIDE THE CAREER CENTRE FOR ELEVEN POSTINGS THAT HAVE BEEN POSTED FOR SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES.  COPIES OF THE POSTINGS ARE AVAILABLE AT YOUR CAREER CENTRE.

1.  Work Experience – (WEX)

  • Career Exploration
  • Work experience or Volunteer hours
  • 4 credits for each 100 hrs exploration for a maximum of 8 credits
  • Hours from job, work experience, job shadow, career research, training research, Career Fair, and/or post-secondary visitations
  • Written reflection of experiences
  • Identified on transcript/report card

2.  Secondary School Apprenticeship – (SSA)

  • Work in a trade area or find an employer to hire you
  • Earn up to 16 credits towards graduation in grades 11 & 12
  • SSA students eligible for $1000 scholarship

3.  Accelerated Credit Enrollment in Industry Training –   (ACE-IT)

  • Partnership between SD #79 and CamosunCollege and SD #79 and Vancouver Island University
  • University courses – FREE tuition
  • Students can receive dual credits--Universityand Secondary School credits that will appear on transcript and report card
  • Complete level one technical training before graduating
  • ACE-IT opportunities are in Automotive, Carpentry, Cooking, Electrical, Heating and Ventilation, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Horticulture, Plumbing, Sheet Metal,  Welding, and Residential Care Assistant
