The Excel Program challenges highly motivated, creative achievers. Students are encouraged to use higher level thinking processes, develop a positive self-concept, work both independently and cooperatively, and develop the confidence to respond orally and in writing with originality and creativity.
The Grade 10 Excel courses offered are English/Social Studies and Math/Science. Students may apply for acceptance into the English/ Social Studies section, the Math/Science section or both sections.
The Grade 11 Excel courses offered are English/Social Studies and Math/Physics. Students may apply for acceptance into the English/ Social Studies section, the Math/Physics section or both sections. The Grade 11 students’ work may be accelerated to better prepare them for Grade 12. Some examples are:
• Math 11 may be accelerated to include topics from Math 12 which will allow the writing of the AP (Advanced Placement or First-year College Level) Calculus exam in Grade 12.
• Socials 11 may include mapping skills that are used in Geography 12.
• English 11 may include topics and strategies from Literature 12.
